Gimmick Description:
A YOUNG WOMAN FROM A FAMILY OF WRESTLING FANS WHO STARTED HER CAREER OFF AS A REFEREE, QUICKLY WORKING HER WAY UP TO THE RANK OF SENIOR OFFICIAL OF A SHOW. AFTER A HARMLESS JOKE FROM HER BROTHER ON HOW WELL SHE TOOK ACCIDENTAL (OR AT TIMES INTENTIONAL) REF BUMPS IN THE MATCHES SHE WORKED, SHE DECIDED TO TAKE A CHANCE AND DIVE INTO THE OTHER END OF THE POOL AND TRY HER OWN HAND AT PROFESSIONAL WRESTLING. HERE COMES YUMI!
Character Biography:
Yumi was born and spent much of her life in Kyoto, Japan. Always taking part of school athletics, she always had a respect for the rules and love of the game, whether it was soccer, baseball, track, what have you. Her admiration for the responsibilities of a referee in such situations motivated her to try her hand in the field herself. In her later years of high school, she began assisting as referee during sports that she didn't participate in, including the school's wrestling league.
With professional wrestling being a huge past time in Japan, especially Kyoto, Yumi spent many nights at home or in arenas, attending wrestling shows with her family. When she graduated high school, she received a scholarship to become a sports official in the United States. Shortly into her studies, which she proceeded to pass with flying colors, Yumi received her first real referee job as a member of New Frontier Wrestling's referee staff in 2018. Fast forward to 2019 with the inclusion of NFW's second brand, Saturday Night Trauma, and Yumi was honored with the promotion to Senior Official of the blue brand - a testament to her professionalism and talent on Tuesday nights before.
As most referees in professional wrestling are familiar, sometimes accidental bumps happen. Yumi was no exception and it started as a light hearted joke amongst her family that she got knocked around the ring so often, she should just consider become an actual wrestling. After a short while, Yumi decided "why not" and sought training. She was taken under the wing of wrestling veterans Stacy Jones, Sanada of the Queens of Chaos and her very own girlfriend, Amy Drew.
Yumi began training heavily in the beginning of 2023. If she wasn't overseeing a match on Saturdays, she was at the school, training and working hard to achieve this new goal. Yumi made her debut on the independent circuit in Chicago in May of 2023. Yumi hit the ground running and quickly became a local sensation. Months later, her trainers convinced her to apply to enter Zion's Queen of Strong Style Tournament. Despite her nerves of performing and choking on the big stage so early, Yumi decided to jump whether she sink or swim. To the surprise of many, herself included, Yumi made it to the semi-finals, surpassing fellow rookie Ichika Sanada and veteran Indigo Rosalez, eventually being eliminated by Maki Megumi. She had captured the hearts of the fans though and as she sadly departed towards the back, they screamed for her signing. Zion Owner, Kai Morgan delivered and now Yumi Akiyama has arrived.

"Unbreakable" by Stratovarius
Entrance Description (These will be used for PPV/Championship Matches):
Stratovarius' "Unbreakable" starts with the soft piano intro as the lights in the arena gradually dim down, bringing the focus to a spotlight on the stage. There, a woman stands on a platform, rising out of the floor, with her back to the ring, head down. As the music picks up, Yumi Akiyama gives a theatrical turn towards the audience and strikes a pose with one arm up and a bright smile on her face. She beams to the adoring crowd, waving and pointing back to them on the stage before beginning a brisk approach to the ring.
As Yumi reaches the end of the ramp, she circles around towards the ring steps where she touches the hands of fans on the way - children especially! She climbs the steps and runs along the apron where she climbs the turnbuckle on the opposite end, raising her arm again and throwing her hood off. There, she steps over the turnbuckle and moves to sit down across it. The camera pans in on her as she waves and blows a kiss before swinging her legs around down into the ring.
As a final show to the crowd, she crosses over to the opposite turnbuckle and climbs the turnbuckle to rile them up just a little more before sliding her robe off and dropping it to the outside attendant before hopping down and finding her corner.
